  1. Nana's Favourite Dishcloth Pattern is a simple kitchen dishcloth with an easy-to-memorize repeat that knitters of any skill level can work up.

Knitted dishcloth patterns like these are perfect for scrubbing off dishes because the purl bumps on both sides which allow for plenty of grabbing, friction and scrubbing of dirty plates and cookware.

The best yarn to use for this knit dishcloth pattern is a cotton, since it easily absorbs water and is washable, so you can use it again and again. Since this kitchen dishcloth is so versatile, you could knit up a bunch of these in the colours of your kitchen or even your favourite colours!

 Knitting Needle Size; 4.5 mm or a US7 knitting needle.

Yarn Weight

Preferably use a cotton (4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran,16-20 stitches to 4 inches.

Finished Size; 24.13 cm wide by 24.13 long or (9.5" wide x 9.5" long)

Abbreviations used are; CO cast on, K knit, P purl, Rep repeat(s)

* Rep from * the number of times specified

Materials List

  • Less than 1 skein:- 71 gms/2.5oz cotton , 109mt or 120 yards in old scale.
  • Needle Size 4.5mm (US7) straight needles.

Dishcloth  Pattern;

CO 41 sts longtail.

Rows 1-4: K across

Rows 5, 7 & 9: K3, *P2, K1; rep from * to last 5 sts, P2, K3

Rows 6, 8, 10 & 12: K3, P to last 3 sts, K3

Row 11: K across

Rep rows 5-12 seven more times, or until desired length of dishcloth, ending the final repeat on row 9.

Next 4 rows: K across

Bind off. Weave in ends.
